" Macy's flagship store in Herald Square was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a fire erupted in the basement.
FDNY officials say there are no reports of injuries.
The call for the fire came in at about 3:30 p.m., and the main fire had been knocked down by 4 p.m.
It started in the cellar and spread to a contained area on the first floor, according to an FDNY official at the scene.
Adrienne Avery said she was on the sixth floor when the announcement was made to evacuate.
"People got a little frantic," she told NBC New York, "locals especially. Tourists seemed kind of excited by it all."
A Macy's spokeswoman said "all customers and store employees were evacuated immediately and safely."
Employees were let back into the store at about 4:30 p.m., and customers shortly after that "
